Breastfeeding Policy

Airedale Shopping Centre welcomes babies to be breastfed in any public area of the Shopping Centre.

How we will make this happen

Our staff will support the needs & rights of mothers to breastfeed. If a customer or visitor to the centre objects to breastfeeding, they will be advised that centre supports breastfeeding. If the situation cannot be resolved the customer or visitor will be referred to centre management.

A copy of this policy will be issued to all new staff and a copy will be displayed in: Management Offices, Cleaning & Maintenance rest rooms and Security control.

Reviewing & updating this policy annually is the responsibility of the Centre Manager who will be glad to hear comments & reports of any incidents.

If a member of staff feels they need more guidance on this they should speak to the Centre Manager.

The Centre & staff will:

• display stickers and appropriate signage
• make mothers and babies welcome
• display the breastfeeding welcome charter

We are breastfeeding welcome:

• To support the needs of our customers & visitors and be family friendly.
• Babies need feeding when they ask for it. Their stomachs are very small and breast milk is digested very quickly.
• Breastfeeding works best when mother & baby relaxed.
• Hungry, upset babies will generally be helped to calm down and become quiet when breastfeeding.
